Short Story

HE SAVED ME!

This brings back memories of the R-kelly single, He saved me,with some of the lyrics still lingering in my head somewhere.

This is a story or testimony of a colleague of mine, who walked into an on-going robbery attack.

Eva had just finished her apply her last bit of make-up before she looked at eh clocked, before she let out a gasp.

“ Jeez, 5:30 already! I have to be out of here now”

It was at this time the popular Lagos traffic was known to start building up.

She picked up her bags and all everything else, kissed her kids as she headed downstairs. She got to the ground floor and made her way to the main gate when she heard a voice behind her.

“ Where are you going to?”, said a grouchy voice.

She turned around and she was facing the barrel of a gun.

“ Blood of Jesus!!!”

“I said where are you going to?”, he said more assertively.

“I’m-m-m goi-i-n-n-g to wo-r-k”, Eva stuttered.

“Give us your money”, another robber said. “ or we will gun your down”.

She reached for her wallet, pulled out the 3000 naira she was going to use to buy cupcakes for her kids. She felt that wasn’t enough, she sought for the change the usually found solace in the deepest and darkest corners of her bag. She even handed over her new iPhone 6 her boss had given her for excellence service and work ethic.

So many thoughts were running through Eva’s mind by this time, will she see her Kids again, her husband, what were they going to do to her.

“God please help me”

“Where do you work?”

“Please just take everything, Please”, Eva pleaded as she was already on her knees.

“ Give her back her change”, the first robber said calmly. “What tribe are you sef?”

“Ig-b-b-o”

“Give her back her things”

The second robber obliged.

“Now, go back to where you are coming from. When we finish you can come out”

“Comot here, abi you no dey hear, go joor”, the second robber said almost slapping her for wasting precious time.

She ran back upstairs, as fast as she could, panting so hard, the robbers could hear her downstairs.

It’s 8:30 now and Eva has just walked into the office, late for the weekly meeting, all eyes are on her, her face is very pale despite the make-up. She sits down, still shaking and almost in tears. Amanda notices and asks to know what was wrong with her.

“Eva, what’s wrong with you?”

“I got robbed, or almost but He saved me”

I believe God delivered her, if you ask me. I believe He is real and he does really amazing things that we can’t really imagine or comprehend.
